Rembrandt: The Night Watch

Rembrandt: The Night Watch. One of the most famous paintings by Rembrandt van Rijn. It was executed in 1632 for the local militia of Amsterdam and darkened over time. The painting was in the 20th Century, three times subject to vandalism. On 13th January 1911 an unemployed naval chef stuck a knife in the painting to protest against his situation.
On 14th September 1975 the painting was attacked by an unemployed teacher with a kitchen knife, which subsequently cut the canvas. Despite considerable restoration effort, slight traces remained.
On 6th April 1990 a madman sprayed sulfuric acid on the picture. Due to several precaution measures only few damage was done.
